PDP Elders boycott Hon Timothy Golu stakeholders meeting and medical outreach

The Political rumble in Pankshin Kanam and Kanke Federal constituency of Plateau central went berserk today, as stakeholders of the People Democratic Party (PDP) boycotted meeting scheduled by member representing the Area, Hon. Timothy Golu.
The familiarization meeting organized for stakeholders of the PDP turned out that Elders and party supporters shunned event. because of his highhandedness in handling post congress election disputes, and also engaging in open confrontation with some key members of the party in his local government.

Hon. Golu had wanted to takeover total control of Kanke PDP party leadership ahead of 2019 general election, a situation that pitched him against other politicians who are also yearning to aspire for political offices.

An elder who spoke in anonymity said, why would Hon. Golu organized such a big and important event without firsts putting his house in order, he is either insensitive to political issues in his local government or the medical outreach is a smokescreen desperately carried out to divert attention from the main issues.

Information available to this medium revealed that, Hon Golu constituents members refused to avail themselves for the free medical outreach organized by his coordinators in   Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam (pkk) on Saturday.
The flag-off is slated was slated today at the General hospital Pankshin was slated to last for three days, but it eventually witnessed low turnout of persons.
It was  gathered that the recent decamping of top politicians  from the PKK especially former Governor Joshua Dariye and Deputy Speaker ,Rt Hon Yusuf Babayo Gagdi  have threatened the reelection of Hon Timothy Golu in 2019.
De-grassroots news source disclosed that Hon Yusuf Gagdi decamping was penciled by APC leadership to gun for the House of Representative seat while Senator Joshua Dariye will eye the senatorial seat come 2019.
Stakeholders in PKK Local Government Areas are of the strong views that Hon. Golu performances don’t warrant him to be reelected for the second time.
The group lamented that since Hon Golu was elected on the platform of PDP about 20 months now the people of his constituents are yet to feel the impact of democracy dividends.
They explained further that, the member has gone into limbo that nobody heard him on media or on the floor of the house which is a clear incident of abandoning the people of PKK.

Jonathan Ishaku, a victim of the inpunity

Former General Manager, Plateau Publishing Corporation (PPC), Publishers of The Nigeria Standard and Sunday Standard newspapers, Mr. Jonathan Ishaku, became a victim of the immediate past administration because of his insistence for contract's due process to be followed.
This came to light at the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the immediate past administration activities sitting at Azi Nyako Youth Centre Dadin-Kowa in Jos, when he was invited to appear before the commission to explain his role in the purchase of City Line Express Machine to PPC.
While narrating his inexplicable suspension as GM on the 1st of May, 2014, Ishaku said, on assumption of office in 2009, there was a proposal by one Turac Investment for the purchase of one Machine called DGM Press at the cost of N396,000,000 that time, but on market survey, they found out that the Machine was already defunct and the company has been sold off.
According to him, in purchasing a press, cares ought to be taken interms of durability and availability of spare parts for the maintenance skills, hence what informed their market survey which they discovered that, the machine was not in existence in the publishing industry in Nigeria and has been faced out.
He said, "so, I wrote a Memo to the then Governor suggesting the most current machine in the market called City Line Express. The City Line Express, at that time was only One hundred and Fifty Million Naira, but there was no further discussion on it until 2011 when I was asked to forward again a request which I did.
"We requested the Manufacturer Representative in Lagos to forward the current price which was 1.5 million dollar (N228,000,000) and we attached it to Ministry of Information and the Commissioner now wrote to the Governor, dated 15th August, 2011 and was approved by Governor Jonah Jang on 3rd February, 2012 but petitioned by the first contractor.
" When I was asked to explain why we did not consider his proposal, I explained why that machine was not suitable; 1. The Manufacturers have been faced out. 2. The City Line Express is the most popular Machine in Nigeria now-many spare parts are available both locally and internationally and many newspapers have it and are maintaining it. I explained that to the Ministry, the Suspended GM explained.
However, while the process of MoU was being drown up with all the taxes and contractual obligations by the Indian representative were carried, the then Commissioner for Information and Commissioner, Pastor Yiljap Abraham, later announced to him that, the Governor have cancelled it because they understood that it was a small machine.
Ishaku, revealed to the Commission that similar machine and other items were advertised again and same machine was eventually, purchased at the cost of N378,500,000 against Turac Investment's initial cost of  N227,000,000 using the same specification.
To explain why the newspapers are Still not on circulation, the former GM said, " I left the office on May 1st, 2014 when I was forced out of office because I insisted that the contractor should follow our terms of contract. Even, certain aspects of the contract were bridged among which, was the resistance I mounted on the award of Pre-Press (Computer Plate Machine)."
Meanwhile, the Commission has ordered the Contractor, former Commissioner, former DFS, former Cashier and those said to be trained to appear before its sitting at the Azi Nyako Youth Centre Dadin-kowa Jos, to explain their various roles.

PLATEAU ADP CHAIRMAN CONDEMNS VICTIMIZATION OF LGC DPMS,DFS AND CASHIERS

The Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Plateau State, Chief Ambassador Nanyah Andrew Daman, has condemned in strong terms the purported suspension and victimization of Local Government Council Directors of Personnel Management (DPM) and Directors of Finance and Cashiers (DFS) of the 17 Local Government Councils of Plateau State .
The ADP Chairman made the statemet in the party secretariat in Jos recently over the news going round that the Lalong Administration through the office of the Permanent Secretary Local Government Service commission in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftancy affairs has suspended the Local Government Staff for working for the PDP in the 2015 general elections and for quarries that have to do with payment to political leaders of the Living Administration who visited the 17 Local Government in the last 1 and the half years.
The ADP condemns the injustice done to the DPMs, DFS and Cashiers where they are paying for the sins of the APC leadership who collected various sums of welfare packages on tour in the 17 LGCs tour and payments to House of Assembly, Chiefs, Local Government Chairmen, Government House Officials and National Officials on special assignments or duties.
Why should the Lalong Government quarry the LGC staff for obeying directives and approvals given by constituted authority?. How does the Living administration expect the local government staffers to ignore their statutory responsibilities? Is it fair that the TIC Chairman of Mikang LGC to threaten and sack his Cashier for obeying financial regulation? How wise is it for the Lalong administration who claims to be brought in by civil servants to turn around to victimize the same workers, particularly widows?
The ADP on the Plateau calls on Governor Lalong not to increase the over 5 million unemployed Nigerians by sacking the Local Government Staff to avoid litigation and unnecessary waste tax payers money.

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), in Benue State, Sir John Ngbede, in this interview expresses opinion that the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), may eventually lead to its extinction in 2019.

Do you see the PDP wresting power from the ruling APC in 2019 with the barrage of crises rocking it even at the national level?

When we get to that bridge we will cross it. When we get to 2019, you will know. The PDP has mechanism of resolving its own crisis. And the crisis you are hearing about is resolvable. Don’t forget that there are moves to reconcile Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi. And I think that move is still in place. That is why I am telling you that PDP has its own way of reconciling its members. So, I don’t think there’s anything wrong yet and by God’s grace, we will overcome.

There are also crises in other political parties. You should be hearing that the APC is also having its own crisis. The Tinubu group is not happy with what is going on. By the time we get to 2019, there will be so many calculations, so many formulas to be adopted, and so many alignments and realignments and at the end of the day, the face of what you are seeing today may even change tomorrow. And may be the APC may not even be in existence again. Another political party may just take over.

Does that also imply that the PDP may not be in existence?

PDP will be in existence. The APC may also be in existence. But then, the face of things will change. You know things can change. Nobody believed that APC would win the 2015 election in Benue State. At a point, almost everybody decamped from the APC to the PDP. But as you are deciding your own, God’s decision is final. That is why whatever the APC is doing today to suppress our members, let the APC not forget that it is not only the PDP members that cast votes in elections, the voters are there.

Even though our members also cast votes, they should know that it is not all the voters that are members of political parties and these voters are still there. So, whatever the APC is doing today, thinking that they want to extinguish the PDP, they should not forget that the voters are watching.

Are you insinuating that some bigwigs in the APC might return to the PDP?

Are you not aware that some bigwigs in the PDP also left for the APC during the senatorial repeated election of Benue South because they learnt that the APC is in power? But, go and ask them how they are faring in that party now.

At the moment, it appears that there are two factions of the PDP in the state. What are you doing to reconcile these factions?

I don’t believe that there are two factions of the PDP in Benue State. You may hear people say there are two factions but to us in this office, we don’t have two factions. Somebody cannot just wake up and come from another party to claim leadership of the party in the state. We are all aware that the man who claims that he is the chairman of the Sheriff faction is in the APC. So, how can he jump from the APC to become a factional chairman in the PDP? Then, don’t forget that the leadership of the PDP in the state today was inaugurated by Sheriff. At the time we were inaugurated, there was nothing like any faction in this state. There was not even a protest of any sort or a petition written against the leadership of this party at the time we conducted the state congress.
How would you describe your experience and challenges after assuming office as Benue State PDP Chairman in the past few months?

The experience has been great. I’ve been into politics for a long time now. So, when I assumed office, I know there were going to be many challenges because I had never been in the position of the executive of the party before. But I have been an active participant in the area of politics in Benue State. I have been in different political parties right from the Nigeria Peoples Party days when I was in the youth wing, down to Social Democratic Party and so many other political parties before now. Since coming into office, I’ve been trying to look at many things that had gone wrong which made people to leave the party.

So, all we are trying to do is to make sure that we do everything humanly possible to make sure that those who left are able to come back and ensure party discipline. There is need for every member to subject himself to the leadership of the party both at the local government, state and even at the national level. We should be able to know that the party hierarchy is there.

What is your assessment of the ruling APC?

I leave that to you people to judge whether they are doing well or not. Ask the ordinary man on the street and he would give you a honest assessment, whether he is happy or not. Whatever the opinion of the ordinary man on the street is, is also the decision of our own party.

What is the view of your party on the suspended local government elections in the state as well as the appointment of 23 sole administrators to man the council’s affairs?

We were not happy that the local government election which we were preparing for was suspended. We kicked against it but as government in power, they had their way. They had asked the directors of local government areas to act for a certain number of months because they exhausted the limits to which the caretaker chairmen could remain in the council areas. However, the tenure of the directors could not go beyond a certain number of months, so they came up with the idea of sole administrators which is against the constitution, even though the amendment of the local government law was passed by the House of Assembly. As a party, we are also against the appointment of the sole administrators and we are going to challenge that action in court.

How do you perceive the fight against corruption at the federal level and in Benue State?

Nobody would ever support corruption and no member of PDP should support corruption as far as I’m concerned. What President Muhammadu Buhari is doing is also receiving the blessing of the PDP but what the party is against is when the fight is only targeted at its members. Some members of the APC are also accused of corruption and that’s where the problem is, otherwise as a party we cannot fault what the president is doing. However, it should not be one-sided because there is every need to eradicate corruption in this country so we must give the president all the necessary support. Don’t forget that our members are also giving him necessary support, especially members of the National Assembly to make sure he succeeds.

Apart from the fight against corruption, the Buhari administration seems to be clamping down on Boko Haram. How would you rate his performance in this area?
Buhari has tried in this area but the former President Goodluck Jonathan too tried his best to a certain level. During the campaigns, the APC said when they come, they would immediately eradicate terrorism in Nigeria, but then the fight has taken up to a year plus now, so that shows the level which Boko Haram was rooted in the country.

Would you say the APC has lived up to their electoral promises?

I don’t think the APC has been able to live up to the change they promised Nigerians. People will tell you these days that the change has turned to chain, so when you hear the ordinary man crying, it means that the party has not lived up to its promises. We also hope for when the APC-led government will live up to its electoral promises to the people of the state. But, one aspect that I must commend the government is in the area that it has not abandoned most of the projects started by the past administration. You don’t just come and abandon what your predecessor had started but you come and continue. When Akume left, Suswam continued with his project and now, Governor Ortom is continuing with some projects of his predecessor. I’m happy about that

Mr. Ezekiel Daju, commended NEPC for boosting the efforts of the state government in empowering small scale farmers

The Nigerian export promotion council (NEPC), a federal government agency for the promotion of non-oil export has concluded arrangements to help tomato farmers in Plateau state to boost production and export of the product.
Tomato is one of the commodities targeted by NEPC’s zero oil plan Zonal coordinator of NEPC, North Central, Mr. Nanakaan Saave disclosed this during a one day workshop organized by the zonal office of NEPC for tomato farmers and other stakeholders in the state.
Mr. Saave in his welcome address to participants in the workshop said, “The export of agricultural products like tomatoes is one of the items that can be used to diversify the economy of the country from its over dependence on oil export.
He said, “We have discovered in the zonal office that there is high concentration of small scale farmers in Plateau state that produces between 25,000 to 30,000 metric tones of tomatoes annually.
“The study also revealed that tomato farmers on the Plateau suffers a lot of deficiencies in the areas of production, storage, handling and packaging, which makes the output unfit for the export market. Further more, the varieties cultivated are not the high yielding and disease resistant ones.
“For the commodity to make a contribution to national foreign exchange earnings, there is therefore need to further enhance the capacity of farmer to produce high quality tomatoes that will attract premium price in the international market with a view to boosting its export in line with the focus of zero-oil plan”
According to Mr. Saave, “It is in this wise that the zonal office sought and got the intervention of the headquarters to organise this capacity building workshop for both farmers and other stakeholders with a view to assisting to boost the production and export of the commodity from the state”
Plateau state commissioner for Commerce, Mr. Ezekiel Daju, while declaring the workshop open said, “The capacity building will go along way in boosting the efforts of the state government in empowering small scale farmers in the state.
In her goodwill message, Plateau State commissioner for agriculture, Mrs. Lynda Barawu, who was represented by Mrs. Halima Pamwa, called on participants to learn, absolve, then go home and practice what they would have learnt from the workshop.

Chairman of the ADP, lambasted the APC, and PDP

The Plateau State Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, Mr Nanyah Andrew Daman, has lambasted the All Progressive Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and other political parties in country of lacking in ideology.
Daman said: “the two major Nigerian political parties, have not been able to prioritise the needs of the citizens.”
Daman made this submission while inaugurating four committees that would work towards laying the basis for a solid structure for the ADP in Plateau State at the party’s secretariat in Jos.
The committees inaugurated were Finance, Contact and Mobilization, Media and Publicity, as well as Strategic Planning and Research.
They are to be chaired by Pam Dachuwang, Comrade Yusuph Dilas, Auta Danjuma and Tabitha Goselle respectively.
The chairman said that he was highly surprised at the turn out of people in the state for registration as ADP members.
He charged the committee members to see their assignment as an opportunity to also contribute their quota towards liberating the masses and deepening of democracy.
Daman said that it is for the above reasons that the ADP was formed to entrench true democracy beginning from the party by way of entrenching internal democracy where the wish of the people would prevail.
According to him: “True democracy must revolve around the people.”
